Solutions: Companion Measures
According to Accenture, nearly 40 percent of utility customers did not interact with a customer service representative at all in the last year. About half interacted with their utility online—but for an underwhelming total of 8.8 minutes on average. The CSVP companion-measures strategy is partly based on the need to make every customer contact pay. Complex demand response (DR) and customer-side storage programs are a lot faster and easier to promote when matched with a forward-looking community solar offer. What’s more, DR and storage directly address the challenges of rising distributed PV penetrations. A well-planned companion program yields integration savings for the customer and the utility. In some regions, integrated DER strategies define the local utility of the future. In this section, CSVP explains why and how to take advantage of DR and storage opportunities (on both sides of the meter). We offer a DR companion measures guide, a storage integration guide, an overall process checklist, case studies, and resources that specifically address utility challenges. Resources found here were prepared for readers who come from any end of the utility and any level in the decision-making process.
